About Design Expo

  Introduction

Design Expo Winter 2020

SJTU Global College Design Expo showcases undergraduate  projects of GC’s design-based courses, especially the ECE/ME/MSE4500J capstone design course. It shows the actual learning outcomes of the students, and provides an opportunity to practice their ability to demonstrate the prototypes or applications on the spot. The Design Expo with 15 years’ history has become a comprehensive platform to demonstrate the practice and effectiveness of education reform at SJTU Global College.

Exhibited Courses

ECE4500J. Major Design Experience & ME4500J. Design and Manufacture III & MSE4500J Product Design and Manufacturing

Give each student a deep understanding of how to approach open-ended challenges by process, and to learn how to innovate and apply the seemingly fragmented engineering knowledge acquired at JI to the design and manufacturing of real mechanical, mechatronic or electrical/computer systems.

ENGR1000J. Introduction to Engineering

Introduces students to the professional technical and communication skills required of engineers and provides them with an overview of engineering at the beginning of their program. An important component of the course is the real-world engineering projects.

ECE4700J Computer Architecture

Contains basic concepts of computer architecture and organization, computer evolution, design methodology, performance evaluation, elementary queuing models, CPU architecture, introduction sets, ALU design, hardware and micro-programmed control, nanoprogramming, memory hierarchies, virtual memory, cache design, input-output architectures, interrupts and DMA. I/O processors, parallel processing, pipelined processors and multiprocessors.

ME4950J Laboratory II

Involves students in the design, construction, and operation of extended experimental projects related to mechanical systems, supplemented by weekly lectures in theoretical and applied experimental methods, and technical communication.  Project topics may include controls, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, mechanics, materials, and dynamical systems. The course emphasizes research report writing, oral presentations, team-building skills, and design of experiments.

ECE4880J Computer Vision

Computer vision is an important field of artificial intelligence, aiming at building a machine vision system with the ability to perceive and understand the visual world like human. This course gives an overview of fundamental methods in computer vision. In addition to basic concepts, theories and algorithms, the coursework includes hands-on tasks, in which the students are required to design computer vision programs to address real world applications or cutting-edge research problems.

BUS1600J Introduction to Green Architecture and Design

This course provides an overview of the technological and practical sustainability solutions fostered by the green architecture philosophy. We will not only examine various forms of existing or envisioned projects from different sizes, times, cultures, and locations, but we will also look into details at the materials and technologies that made these projects possible. While exploring the different theoretical and technological aspects of green architecture, we will also develop design projects to better understand how they can be applied in the practice.
